Richmond Law’s Children’s Defense Clinic selects iCONECT for protest video review
RICHMOND, VA – SAN FRANCISCO, CA – DATE AUG 24, 2020 – iCONECT Development, LLC, a privately held leader in legal technology / eDiscovery, today announced that the University of Richmond School of Law’s Children’s Defense Clinic has selected the iCONECT web-based eDiscovery review platform to analyse hundreds of hours of video. The material was collected from CCTV and police body-cameras centered around recent protests related to the Confederate monuments in the City of Richmond. Users, through iCONECT’s ‘pro bono’ licensing program will have secure web-based access to the videos, providing the ability to pause, comment, timestamp, and tag any area of interest.
iCONECT’s special user licensing for pro bono cases is meant to encourage taking on pro bono projects by removing the barrier of significant outside costs. Pro bono can be defined as direct legal representation provided to persons of limited means, or organizations that support the needs of persons of limited means (including indigent clients and religious, charitable and other non-profit entities), for which no compensation is received or expected. Pro bono also encompasses activities performed for a reduced fee or unpaid activities for the benefit of an organization that supports legal services for the poor, or for the general public. In all cases, the services provided are law-related.
“This program will significantly enhance our ability to provide effective representation on behalf of our pro bono clients.” says Prof. Julie E. McConnell, Director, Children’s Defense Clinic, Clinical Professor of Law, University of Richmond School of Law. “iCONECT’s ability to view, tag and make notes on multi-media files is invaluable as we identify incidents and inappropriate conduct at the university.
Beyond its ability to import, view, search, analyze, categorize, report and print documents in any legal case, the latest version of iCONECT v10 contains leading edge features such as multi-media review; manual review Oversight; multi-language support, Continuous Active Learning AI and COVER; a module that identifies, reports and redacts PII, PHI, sensitive data or keywords to comply with current and future privacy governance standards.
“We are typically focussed on document review for some of the world’s largest and most complex legal cases, however our unique ability to review video via a web-browser without add-ons, plug-ins or downloads is truly unique,” comments Ian Campbell, CEO of iCONECT. “Our pro-bono licensing program was designed for situations just like this.”
